Event Timings – Until all of the entries are in the draws cannot be made therefore timings are unknown. However, from previous events we can assume that Patterns will be the first event starting with lower grades and younger age groups. Sparring will follow and usually starts around late morning continuing until early afternoon. Special Technique will be an afternoon event, followed by Power Test. For Pre-Arranged Sparring, this is still a new event for TAE to include in competitions therefore we don’t know for sure at which stage it will be added in – guessing it will be one of the later events.

Patterns – For coloured belt patterns it is pattern of your choice, so go for your best and highest pattern. - i.e. if you’re still learning your latest pattern then stick with the one below which you can perform with confidence all of the way through.

Sparring – Will be continuous sparring for 1 round of 1m 30s for under 12s and 2 minutes for everyone else (Blackbelts have 2 rounds). All competitors must have their own sparring equipment, including:

  • Gloves

  • Kicks

  • Headguard

  • Mouthguard

  • Groin guard (males)

  • Shin guards (optional)

  • Body Armour (optional & provided by club)

Special Technique – Jumping high kick as practiced in class. Blackbelts also have flying sidekick and flying turning kick.

Power Test – For green belts and above for over 14 years. Includes the techniques - Knife hand side strike, side kick & turning kick.

Pre-Arranged Sparring – a choreographed sequence of attacking and defensive movements (with control) performed with your partner over a period of 45 – 60 seconds.

Payment – please make payment to the Newcastle Blackbelt Academy account.

Entry £30

Pre-arranged Sparring £10 per team

Spectators £5 (also payable on the day)

Coaches – Newcastle Blackbelt Academy will have coaches at the event to help the competitors get to the correct area for their events and to sit ring side during sparring. Any questions on the day should be directed to the coaches. Do not approach the officials directly even if they’re from our club.

Fun – it is mandatory that you have fun and enjoy the day. Whatever the outcome of your rounds, win or lose, it is the taking part in the event which counts and the experience will benefit your own development in Taekwon-Do. So if you’re not successful in any of your rounds just smile and congratulate your opponent then watch the rest of the event to the final and try see how you can improve for next time ????

Extra Training – we will arrange some additional training ahead of the event for those who are competing, we will let you know when.
